I was pleasantly surprised to receive a 'home-made' birthday present from my sister the other day. She has creatively designed a set of butterflies according to the colours, shapes and patterns associated with each zodiac sign. My sister is not into astrology the way I am so she did all the research from scratch. She said she got stuck on Taurus because between all the websites and books she had consulted, every single colour under the sun seemed to be associated with Taurus! She did ask me at one point and I told her I wasn't too concerned with colours except that Taurus is an earth sign so I would go for an earthy colour. She's forever making gifts for her friends so I thought she was doing something for them - until I opened the big envelope from her in the post.
Thanks sis:-)
How beautiful. What is the cancer butterfly and what does it mean?
ReplyDeleteIf you scroll down my blog, you'll see a gallery of all the butterflies on the right-hand side. I'll get my sister to explain her creations to you:-)
ReplyDeleteA reply from my sister:
ReplyDeleteI based the butterfly loosely on the male "Large White" butterfly (as the female counterparts have spots):

The colour white, light grey and pearl are all associated with cancer and the rounded shape of the butterfly goes with its water element.

More from my sister on the Cancer butterfly:
ReplyDeleteFor the butterflies under the water element and air element I avoided solid patterns or big patterns as it would not suit the flowing and ever changing nature of these two elements. That's why all the butterflies under these two elements do not have any patterns and consist mainly of a blend of colours. I chose the male Large White without the spots rather than the female with the spots (as the spot would make things a bit too solid) for this reason.
It great! I like it!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me the name of remaining 11 species of butterflies? And what is its significance?
Thank you.
p/s: sorry, i'm not good at english >.<
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThey're created by my sister. Here's where she got her inspiration from:
The butterflies were very loosely based on the following species:
Aries - Peacock http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=11
Taurus - Fritillary http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=18
Gemini - Brimstone http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=6
Cancer - Large White http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=31
Leo - Swallowtail
Virgo - Painted Lady http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=38
Libra - wood white http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=49
Scorpio - Brown Argus http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=14
Sagittarius - Purple Emperor http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=8
Capricorn - Grayling http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=24
Aquarius - Blue Morpho http://www.rainforest-alliance.org.uk/kids/species-profiles/blue-butterfly
Pisces - Common blue http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/Butterfly/32/Butterfly.html?ButterflyId=17
Colours - I used a variety of sources to find colours associated with each sign. Parker’s astrology book, this website:http://www.natha.net/articles/astrology/colors-and-zodiac-signs.html and other sources that I Googled.
The element associated with each sign also influenced my choice of species for each sign:
Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) - Earthy colours, solid patterns, large slightly angular wings
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) - Bright vibrant colours and patterns
Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)- Rounded shape, no patterns, blended colours
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)- Undefined shape, no pattern, soft, diffused colours
Some choices I made were based on artistic intuition which I cannot put into words.
Hope this answered your question:-)
Thank you very much ^^
